Nancy Pearl - Recomending vs. Suggesting: the Shoe Store Example

Years ago, shoe salesmen used to bring several pairs of shoes to each customer.
One exactly like the shoes you are wearing
One similar but a different brand
And one that is completely different in style and brand

If we as librarians use this format to help us suggest a book to a reader we will put less pressure on our patrons and open up their worlds to different literature.
